December Shows in Atlanta, #1-9 (with a Spotify Playlist)

It’s that time of year again… the month of lists! With everyone making 2013 lists for top album, song, video, etc., I thought it would be a good time to bring back the top Nine Local shows to see this month in Atlanta. Several bands local to Atlanta and Athens are on the list, including repeat appearances on Nine Local by Quiet Hounds, Ruby Velle & the Soulphonics, Gringo Star, Turf War and Futurebirds. See the complete list below and go support live music!

#1:  Brazos at 529 with Ski Lodge and  Minor Miracles – 12/13 | 9PM | $8 – Get Tickets

With so many repeats making the list this month, I decided to go with some recent discoveries at the #1 spot. Listen to “How the Ranks was Won” from Brazos’ latest album, Saltwater, and “Just to be like You” from Ski Lodge’s debut album, Big Heart. Good sounds coming out of New York!

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit made our list in November of 2012. Jason returns with a solo set while fellow Birmingham natives, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, open the show. Listen to the soulful sounds of SPBB here:

November Shows in Atlanta, #1: Quiet Hounds at The Goat Farm Arts Center

Atlanta, Sat. 11/17:  At #1, Go see Quiet Hounds at The Goat Farm Arts Center!  I just want to boldly say that the most underrated band that I’ve discovered this year is a new local favorite… Quiet Hounds.  This show at the beautiful Goat Farm (west of Midtown) will feature the band’s “Ode to Lost Souls.”  As stated in the description of the “Beacon Sun” video below, “…our curious gentlemen traveled to Andersonville to pay respect to those who suffered, and played songs to the lost souls who left this world wronged… in an attempt to set things right, to send these souls home… So our heroes know their journey was not all for loss.”

Tickets & Such:

  • $15 / online
  • Show: 8:00pm / GoodsonYard Performance Hall
  • RSVP on Facebook
  • The Goat Farm, 1200 Foster St, Atlanta, GA 30318

Here’s the video for “I Get Up” from their debut album, Megaphona, filmed at Ponce City Market in Atlanta…

See you at the show!
