December Shows in Atlanta, #1-9 (with a Spotify Playlist)

It’s that time of year again… the month of lists! With everyone making 2013 lists for top album, song, video, etc., I thought it would be a good time to bring back the top Nine Local shows to see this month in Atlanta. Several bands local to Atlanta and Athens are on the list, including repeat appearances on Nine Local by Quiet Hounds, Ruby Velle & the Soulphonics, Gringo Star, Turf War and Futurebirds. See the complete list below and go support live music!

#1:  Brazos at 529 with Ski Lodge and  Minor Miracles – 12/13 | 9PM | $8 – Get Tickets

With so many repeats making the list this month, I decided to go with some recent discoveries at the #1 spot. Listen to “How the Ranks was Won” from Brazos’ latest album, Saltwater, and “Just to be like You” from Ski Lodge’s debut album, Big Heart. Good sounds coming out of New York!

#2: Jason Isbell at Buckhead Theatre with St. Paul & the Broken Bones – 12/6 | 9PM – SOLD OUT

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit made our list in November of 2012. Jason returns with a solo set while fellow Birmingham natives, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, open the show. Listen to the soulful sounds of SPBB here:

Spend New Year’s Eve with Athens resident and UGA grad, Ernest Greene, a.k.a. Washed Out. Maybe you recognize the song below from his 2010 EP, Life of Leisure?

April Shows in Atlanta, #8: Hurray for the Riff Raff with Sam Doores, Riley Downing and The Tumbleweeds at 529

Atlanta, Thu. 4/11:  Go see Hurray for the Riff Raff at 529 in the East Atlanta Village!  I had the pleasure of seeing Alynda lee Segarra and her band, Hurray for the Riff Raff, at Grocery on Home this past November.  A Puerto Rican raised in The Bronx, Alynda settled down in New Orleans after living a life of a traveling musician, often hopping trains to get to the next town.  Even though she now calls Louisiana home, she still continues to tour, including opening shows for Alabama Shakes earlier this year and a Spring tour that includes the U.K., Ireland and Canada .  With a mix of folk, classic country, surf-rock and psychedelia and lyrics that portray her passion for the South, Hurray for the Riff Raff is a band for fans of all things Americana.

“Look Out Mama” is the title track from their latest album…
