May Shows in Atlanta, #1-9 (with a Spotify Playlist)

As I mentioned earlier this week, I’m moving to Nashville!  But that doesn’t mean @NineLocal will not continue recommending shows in Atlanta.  I’ll be doing it myself or have someone help me, but for the month of May, there will not be individual posts for the top 9 shows.  This list, however, is the top 9 shows to see in May.  So get out there and support live music!

Update: As of 10/1/2013, I’m officially back in Atlanta. Nashville is amazing, but my “day job” brought me back home.

#1:  Shaky Knees Festival at Masquerade Music Park – 5/4 & 5/5

(This lineup is stacked!  Don’t miss live sets from Gary Clark Jr., Vintage Trouble and Shovels & Rope)

#2:  The Black Keys at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakedwood – 5/2

#3:  Ryan Bingham and The Wild Feathers at Center Stage – 5/18

#4:  Meshell Ndegeocello at Piedmont Park (Atlanta Jazz Festival) – 5/25

#5:  Rodriguez at Variety Playhouse – 5/11

#6:  Alan Evans Trio at Smith’s Olde Bar – 5/1

#7:  The Weeks at The Masquerade – 5/9

#8:  James Blake at The Masquerade – 5/14

April Shows in Atlanta, #4: Lake Street Dive at Star Bar

Atlanta, Fri. 4/5:  Go see Lake Street Dive at The Star Community Bar!  I first heard Lake Street Dive last year after the release of their latest EP, Fun Machine, and immediately got hooked.  Based out of Brooklyn, this four-piece jazz band are all graduates of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, including accomplished jazz vocalist, Rachael Price.  Their version of The Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back” (see video) is what did it for me and I’ve been enjoying the entire EP ever since.  Don’t miss this show!

Tickets & Such:

  • $10 at the door / $12 online
  • Doors: 8:30pm / Show: 9:30pm
  • Lake Street Dive goes on stage at 9:30, Blake Rainey & His Demons and The Skylarks to follow.
  • Star Bar, 437 Moreland Ave, Atlanta, GA 30307
