Update: As of 10/1/2013, I’m officially back in Atlanta. Nashville is amazing, but my “day job” brought me back home.
I love Atlanta, the city of my birth, but I’ll be living in “Music City” now. That’s right, @NineLocal is moving to Nashville. I’m excited about discovering my new favorite venues and local musicians. But don’t worry Atlanta, I will still be recommending shows for you to go see and/or I’ll be inviting friends and guest bloggers to help me keep it going. But let’s talk about that later… I have a free ticket to give away!
Who: The Black Keys with The Flaming Lips When: Thursday, May 2, 2013 Where: Aaron’s Amphitheater at Lakewood Seat: section 101, row G (amazing seat!)
*Ticket will be emailed via Live Nation Ticket Transfer
2) Share a link to this blog post on Twitter and include the following: “Wanna see @theblackkeys and @theflaminglips in Atlanta 5/2? @NineLocal has a #freeBKticket!”
I’ll be checking the feed of #freeBKticket tweets and a winner will be chosen at random before 10 AM Automatic, Thursday, May 2. The winner must live in the Atlanta area because I want this ticket to be used! Good luck!
Atlanta, Thu. 3/21: Go see Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers at Smith’s Olde Bar! Nicki and her husband, Tim, are quite busy, touring and recording with the Gramblers as well as their other San Francisco rock band, Brokedown in Bakersfield. They also recorded Duets as “Tim & Nicki Bluhm” in 2011. Described as “rocking country soul with a tinge of vintage,” Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers are as good as it gets. I can’t wait to see them live!
Recorded live at Rickshaw Shop on 6/5/12, “Burnt” from her debut album, Toby’s Song…
Atlanta, Wed. 3/6: Go see alt-J at The Masquerade! alt-J sounds a lot like… uh… alt-J. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything like it. Already popular in the U.K. for a few years, this indie rock band from Leeds, England released An Awesome Wave in the U.S. last September and have been on fire ever since. Their current tour of the U.S. includes stops at SXSW, Coachella and Bonnaroo. The good news for those of us that missed out on March 6th tickets is that they’ve already booked a headlining show at The Tabernacle in Atlanta (9/23)! Oh… and if you go buy the LP or CD at Criminal Records in Little Five Points, you’ll receive a free ticket to alt-J’s in-store performance. They play inside the store at 6pm, just before the Masquerade show (info). Go!
Atlanta, Mon. 3/4: Go see Kopecky Family Band and Leagues at The Basement! Located under Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta Village, this venue will be packed for 2 great Nashville bands. Kopecky Family Band released Kids Raising Kids last year and Leagues’ debut album, You Belong Here, is and will be one of the top albums of this year! Kudos to Bowe, Inc. of Atlanta for continuing to book great shows.
Atlanta, Mon. 3/25: Go see The Stone Foxes at Smith’s Olde Bar! I first heard this San Francisco band when they released a single of “I’m a King Bee” in 2011. Their version of this classic Slim Harpo song (see video) is enough to make me buy a ticket, but their third studio album, Small Fires, is just as good. And Smith’s Olde Bar is the perfect venue for blues rock!
Atlanta, Thu. 3/7: Go see Little Tybee at The Goat Farm Arts Center! One of my favorite Atlanta-based indie rock bands will be celebrating the release of their upcoming album. For Distant Viewing, due April 9th, will be their third studio album and I can’t wait to hear it. Get to the show early to hear Nashville’s Colorfeels and enjoy some delicious treats from the Good Food Truck.
“Hearing Blue” is a track from their debut album, but this updated version will be on the new album…
