March Shows in Atlanta, #1: Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers at Smith’s Olde Bar

Atlanta, Thu. 3/21:  Go see Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers at Smith’s Olde Bar!  Nicki and her husband, Tim, are quite busy, touring and recording with the Gramblers as well as their other San Francisco rock band, Brokedown in Bakersfield.  They also recorded Duets as “Tim & Nicki Bluhm” in 2011.  Described as “rocking country soul with a tinge of vintage,” Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers are as good as it gets.  I can’t wait to see them live!

Recorded live at Rickshaw Shop on 6/5/12, “Burnt” from her debut album, Toby’s Song

Tickets & Such:

  • $15 adv / $17.25 online
  • Doors: 8pm / Upstairs
  • Opener: You Me & Apollo
  • Smith’s Olde Bar, 1578 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30324

Get there early for You Me & Apollo…

March Shows in Atlanta, #2: alt-J at The Masquerade

Atlanta, Wed. 3/6:  Go see alt-J at The Masquerade!  alt-J sounds a lot like… uh… alt-J.  I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything like it.  Already popular in the U.K. for a few years, this indie rock band from Leeds, England released An Awesome Wave in the U.S. last September and have been on fire ever since.  Their current tour of the U.S. includes stops at SXSW, Coachella and Bonnaroo.  The good news for those of us that missed out on March 6th tickets is that they’ve already booked a headlining show at The Tabernacle in Atlanta (9/23)!  Oh… and if you go buy the LP or CD at Criminal Records in Little Five Points, you’ll receive a free ticket to alt-J’s in-store performance.  They play inside the store at 6pm, just before the Masquerade show (info).  Go!

Tickets & Such:

  • This show is SOLD OUT!
  • Doors: 8pm / Show: 9:30pm / in “Heaven”
  • Opener: Hundred Waters
  • RSVP on Facebook

March Shows in Atlanta, #3: Kopecky Family Band and Leagues at The Basement

Atlanta, Mon. 3/4:  Go see Kopecky Family Band and Leagues at The Basement!  Located under Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta Village, this venue will be packed for 2 great Nashville bands.  Kopecky Family Band released Kids Raising Kids last year and Leagues’ debut album, You Belong Here, is and will be one of the top albums of this year!  Kudos to Bowe, Inc. of Atlanta for continuing to book great shows.

“Heartbeat” from KFB’s latest album…

  • $10-$12 / online
  • Doors: 8pm / Show: 8:30pm

March Shows in Atlanta, #4: The Stone Foxes at Smith’s Olde Bar

Atlanta, Mon. 3/25:  Go see The Stone Foxes at Smith’s Olde Bar!  I first heard this San Francisco band when they released a single of “I’m a King Bee” in 2011.  Their version of this classic Slim Harpo song (see video) is enough to make me buy a ticket, but their third studio album, Small Fires, is just as good.  And Smith’s Olde Bar is the perfect venue for blues rock!

Tickets & Such:

  • Win a pair of tickets from Atlanta Music Guide!
  • $8 adv / $9.90 online / $10 at the door
  • Doors: 8pm / Upstairs
  • Smith’s Olde Bar, 1578 Piedmont Ave NE  Atlanta, GA 30324

March Shows in Atlanta, #5: Little Tybee at The Goat Farm

Atlanta, Thu. 3/7:  Go see Little Tybee at The Goat Farm Arts Center!  One of my favorite Atlanta-based indie rock bands will be celebrating the release of their upcoming album.  For Distant Viewing, due April 9th, will be their third studio album and I can’t wait to hear it.  Get to the show early to hear Nashville’s Colorfeels and enjoy some delicious treats from the Good Food Truck.

“Hearing Blue” is a track from their debut album, but this updated version will be on the new album…

Tickets & Such:

  • $9.27 online / $10 at the door
  • Doors: 7:30pm / Show: 8:30pm / Goodson Yard
  • Opener: Colorfeels
  • RSVP on Facebook
  • The Goat Farm Arts Center, 1200 Foster St, Atlanta, GA 30318

March Shows in Atlanta, #6: Henry Wagons at The Masquerade

Atlanta, Fri. 3/8:  Go see Henry Wagons at The Masquerade!  I had never heard of Henry Wagons or his band Wagons until the release of “Expecting Company?” in January.  But Henry, one of Melbourne, Australia’s “Top 100 Influential People,” is an incredible songwriter and plays outlaw country rock as if he were the original outlaw.  I agree with Rolling Stone when they said he sounds “like the lovechild of Nick Cave and Johnny Cash.”  Don’t miss this show!

“Unwelcome Company” featuring Alison Mosshart (The Kills / The Dead Weather)…

Tickets & Such:

  • $8 at box office / $10 at the door / $13.30 at Ticketmaster
  • Show: 8pm / in “Purgatory”
  • RSVP on Facebook
  • The Masquerade, 695 North Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308
